February Recap / March Goals

Okay, okay… I know I’m a little late on this post, but it was hard to get to when I was partying my face off, and of course learning a TON at WPPI! (Which I will get to later this week). I’m actually writing this post as I fly 30,000 ft above Iowa. I won’t lie I have a pretty sweet office right now.

What can I say about February other than it was truly a month of complete self-improvement. In a past post I wrote about my personal goals for the year, and some of them were to take better care of myself, train for the numerous races I wanted to run, and the overall just to live a happier and healthier lifestyle!

Well it’s happening. This past month I have consistently made it to the gym and started weight conditioning in addition to running an average 16 miles a week for marathon training! In the midst of keeping active I have completely done away with fast food, including pizza, pop, and candy! (However I may have cheated a bit being in Vegas for WPPI…The weight you gain in Vegas stays in Vegas right??) Despite the few days of over indulgence I feel AMAZING, and have so much more energy!

Right before we left for Vegas I invested in a Jawbone UP that helps me count the amount of steps I take, the calories I burn, and how much sleep I get each day. Wow, has it been helpful and motivating! Each day I have set goals that help keep me on track and motivated. I’m extremely happy to say that after doing everything in February to live healthier I am down 10 pounds, and well on my way to reach my target weight!

In addition to working out and eating better I started picking up more books to read. My 2015 goal was to read 10 books by the end of the year, and I recently finished both “Tribes” by Seth Godin, and “The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing” by Al Ries and Jack Trout. Both are outstanding books for anyone starting or running their own business! “Tribes” teaches you how to be a leader for people who believe in what you stand for, and how to create a following. Very important especially in the photography industry! Where as “The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing” lays out 22 marketing principles that you may never think of!

This month I’m building off of everything I started in February, and then some! Obviously I am going to continue my healthy lifestyle, and continue to eat right and train for my marathons this year. In addition I plan on finishing a few more business books. I haven’t decided which ones yet (although I just purchased four more books two weeks ago). Other than doing what I did in February I’m going to continue working on creating systems than ensure my couples receive the absolute best care and service as well as keep networking with local photographers! Here’s a short list of some actions I plan on taking to help me get there! 🙂

  • Find/Sign-up for online client management (I.E. ShootQ and 17Hats)
  • Finish e-mail templates
  • Design new packaging that is consistent with my brand
  • Evaluate and restate my mission statement
  • Re-develope my 2015 business plan

Thanks for reading! Look out for tomorrow’s blog post when I recap my experience at WPPI and share with you many photos of my time! I actually think it might be a two part series so stay tuned! 🙂
